Interior Funding Bill Approved by Rules Committee

Washington, DC The House Committee on Rules tonight approved a Rule for consideration of H.R. 2996 - Making appropriations for the Department of the Interior, environment, and related agencies for the fiscal year ending September 30, 2010. The rule provides for an hour of debate and 13 amendments.

Chairman Louise M. Slaughter issued the following statement:

“This Rule allows us to move forward with consideration of the funding plan for some of our most important agencies, including Interior, the Environmental Protection Agency and the U.S. Forest Service. It will help more than 1,500 communities improve their drinking water and wastewater systems. The bill also makes crucial investments in cleaning up toxic waste and moves us closer to energy independence by providing funds for producing renewable fuels. Finally, this bill provides increased funding for both the National Endowments for the Arts and Humanities as well as the Smithsonian Institution. I strongly encourage my colleagues to support this rule on the House floor and move this legislation forward.”
