Slaughter Statement on Meeting with US Trade Rep Ron Kirk

Washington, DC – Rep. Louise Slaughter met today in her office with United States Trade Representative Ron Kirk, along with other House Democrats. She issued the following statement after the meeting;

“I appreciate Ambassador Kirk sharing his vision for trade under the guidance of this new Administration,” Slaughter said. “But while our conversation was a good first step, I strongly encourage the White House to draw up new agreements and resist the temptation to send Congress warmed-over versions of agreements left over from the Bush Administration that are bad for labor and the environment, as well as American jobs and businesses.”
