Slaughter Says PAYGO Bill Places Firm Limits on Government Spending
Washington, DC – The House Committee on Rules met today and approved a Rule that approves the consideration on the House floor of the Statutory Pay-As-You-Go Act of 2009, or PAYGO, legislation. The bill is expected to be on the floor tomorrow morning.
Chair Louise M. Slaughter issued the following statement:
“This bill is sensible and logical and a piece of legislation that every American can appreciate and agree with. Simply put, it holds the federal government to a basic principle: that new taxes or entitlement legislation must be paid for. It’s a strong step in the right direction and will help Congress move in the direction of regaining control of our deficit – which unfortunately ballooned out of control under the Bush Administration. I strongly support the passage of this legislation, I am proud to bring it to the House floor and I encourage my colleagues to support it.”
The debate rules will be posted on our website at www.rules.house.gov
